All about korfball
Korfball is an exciting mixed team sport combining agility, speed
and technique. Played in over 40 countries around the world, the game involves moving and passing a ball similar to
a football around a court with the aim of scoring goals. Korfball was invented in Holland in 1902 by a Dutch schoolteacher called Nico Broëkhuysen for all the boys and girls in his class to play together. It is in the same family as netball and
basketball, and "korf" is the Dutch word for basket.
In korfball, you have two teams playing against each other and trying to score the most goals. A korfball team has
8 players: two boys and two girls attacking and two boys and two girls defending. After every 2 goals, the roles are swapped
around, so everyone in the team gets a turn at both attacking and defending.
Boys and girls play together and everyone gets an equal chance to score. Teamwork and co-operation
are really important. In attack, you'll be trying to break away from your defender to get a clear shot at the post, or get the ball
to one of your team mates so that they can shoot. In defence, your job is to stick to your opponent and not let them have a chance to shoot. Mix in a few extra rules, tricks and tactics, and that's korfball!

This sport is fantastic for people of all ages, it's fun, it keeps you active and fit, and is a great way for people of all ages to socialise in a fun, family environment.
Korfball has been played in Cambridge for over 12 years and there
are now four well-established clubs in the city. In the last few years, new
clubs have also sprung up in Littleport and Ely, making Cambridgeshire one of
the biggest centres of the sport in Britain.
Cambridge Tigers is one of the most successful korfball clubs
in the area. We have over 40 senior members (age 13+) and around 20 junior
members aged between 7 and 12. Our senior teams play in the National and local
korfball leagues and some of our players have represented England at Under 16
and Under 19 international level.
